“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the
things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things
which are not seen are eternal.”
2 Corinthians 4:18
I had the great pleasure of working with Brother Lester
Roloff a man of God that showed me more about living by faith than any other
person. When he preached he would make
statements from time to time that were comical and yet carried a lot of truth
with them. One such statement was, “You
don’t take a You Haul It to heaven!”
I remember laughing to myself when he made this comment and many others
that made him so unique. The fact is you don’t take a You Haul It to
Heaven!
I’m convinced we have much grief in our lives because we
place too much hope and care on the things that surround around us now rather
than the things the believer has prepared for them in Glory. We worry over things that disappear, things
that were once so important and now are gone hardly a thought in our minds,
houses, cars, money just things in general.
Things that were once shinny and beautiful, now faded and not so pretty,
we’ve worried over them all. Solomon had
it right when he said, “Vanity of vanity, all is vanity.”
Better it is to look ahead and see what is prepared for our
future than to dwell on the things of this world that will deteriorate and
end! Let me ask, what does this world
have to offer other then sorrow? Any
“real” joy the believer receives is not because of things that they have that
are temporary but the things that are future or the preparation for it.
The Apostle Paul uses this statement to encourage those
that have trials. Our hope lies in
Christ and His promises not in the things that surround us in this world. If we look ahead to all the glory that awaits
us, the things that are hurting us now and causing us such anguish will
dissipate into the air and our fear will leave with it. Look up and look ahead!!!
